Videos/YouTube

Jane emailed me yesterday that the Library of Congress YouTube channel has gone public. I've looked at one of their scholars webcasts on " Capturing Sound" how technology has changed music".

It's basically a talking-head video but at least I know the LOC has jumped on the bandwagon to video stream and deliver through YouTube.

Podcasts

Just listened to a segment of UC Berkeley's Economics lecture One on iTunesU. Look forward to a Ryerson file.

Brower Tools

Simply blown away by so many adds-on to choose from FireFox ( and images only) - FlickrFox, ZoomFox, Browse Image, Image Assistant, MorImage, ImageBot... For now I just stay with my little Delicious in the tool bar.

Facebook, etc.

I've turned down a number of real friends who invited me to join Facebook. I don't think I'm prepared to share my information in this context.

Google Docs

Just fininshed the word game. It's fun! It's like wikis and I can see the benefit of sharing the editing of a file. Will try this for updating web pages.
LibraryThing

Trying to catch up in April! I actually did the LibraryThing in March but forgot to blog.

Anyone interested in e-learning books?

Delicious

I did the assignment two weeks ago but never found the time to blog. Time is really my #1 enemy.

Yes, I'm a little concerned with the lack of authority control of tags. Some are so broad e.g. canada.

Wikis

Actually I did the wikis exercise before Flickr, on this very same day... I just forgot to blog. As usual, I chose an easy option - to edit the library entry. And as usual, I clicked too fast and didn't pay enough attention to details on the screen before calling for help. I got Brian on the phone and asked him why I was not seeing the text to edit when I clicked on "edit". Almost immediately after I hung up, I got the text screen. Fortunately, I did find something less dumb for Brian to help me out - comparing my edits with previous ones. However, I still don't know how I can track the complete history of edits, as I could only compare two versions at one time.

I think I like the collaborative way of writing and see potentials for lots of work situations that can employ this. The first things coming to mind are the AV or Reserve web pages or the copyright FAQ. I can never forget the number of hours spent on e-mailing with one another versions 8,9 and 10 of the same script. I'd love to use wikis for my next update on these pages!

Ballroom dancing

You see, I'm taking the easy way out to find a photo from Flickr and not creating a Flickr account and get into the business of blogging tool, etc. Ballroom dancing is my favourite sport and that's why I chose this photo. I like the photo because it's closer to my experience - always learning to find the right pose, even after "years" of dancing, so to speak. I also like the photo in black and white.

Perhaps I should mention that I got help from Sue with this exercise. I almost forgot how to blog after a week's lapse ( How unforgiving my memory is!) I'm glad to hear from Zita that we'll soon get a free week for catching up. I certainly need it, as I'm already behind with this exercise.

I made so many mistakes this week that I didn't have much "fun" in learning. First, I tried to create the feeds in IE and somehow got them in Microsoft instead of Bloglines. Then I forgot that my Blogger and Bloglines passwords were different and login failed. Thanks to Lei for helping me out. I really appreciate it. Blame it on Friday? No, it's me.

Nevertheless, I hope my IQ will improve over the next weeks to put me back on the "fun" track. I'm sure the RSS feeds will help to save me time - putting together under one roof all the what's new I'd like to know about.

learn for fun

I'm not a great blogger but I'm willing to try and learn how to make use of new technology, not just for work, but for FUN!
